Make Do and Mend " Lost Horizon

From time to time I need a break fromall the EDM, Pop, and Folk; and it would seem Lost Horizon is the place torock. The lineup on Wednesday consists of Make Do and Mend, Cheap Girls, DiamondYouth, Of Fortune & Fame, and Bad Dreams. Doors are at 6pm and the show begins at 6:30pm; with tickets at the fair priceof $10.

Mickey Hart Band " Westcott Theater

Youve got to have soul if you want togo to Westcott and check out Mickey Hart Band. Mickeys music is known forhaving great rhythm and spirit. This San Francisco native band has elements ofother bands like Grateful Dead and cultures from around the world. This guy may not be and American Idolbut he was third runner up, making him an idol in Texas or a few other statesmaybe. You can watch Casey James perform live at Toby Keiths Bar and Grilllocated inside of Destiny USA. Tickets are being sold for $10 and it is a 21and over event.

 Youbetter send yourself on your way to check out Rusted Roots Michael Glabicki performsome solo music at the Westcott on Tuesday. In all honesty I only know ofRusted Roots because of their featured song Send me on my Way DreamWorks Ice Age. This is okay, because itallowed me to explore the rest of the bands music and appreciate theirbohemian rhythmic music. With Michael Glabicki being the front man to all thatsweet music is sure to impress the audience with his solo music. Along with Glabickiare Kohlton Pascal and The Birdseed Bandits. Tickets are $12-$15; doors open at 7pm with theshows starting at 8pm.

Bela Fleck and the Marcus Roberts Trio - Westcott Theater

This show should provide a good mix of Bluegrass and Jazz, a very unlikely combo in most places around the country. The doors open at 7pm and the show begins at 8pm. Tickets are on sale through Westcott's website and are going for $35-$40.

King Lee - The Palace Theater

"King Lee" is a locally funded and made film that draws inspiration from the real life Syracuse mayor Lee Alexander. A story about corruption, greed, and why Syracuse is a challenged city; this all comes to fruition at 7:30 on Thursday. Pre sale tickets are on Palace Theater's website,and go for $10. Don't miss out on this original and awesome film!

Ghost town Gamblers - Fusion Room

Local act "Ghost Town Gamblers" is a cover band that is focused on playing good fun Rock and Roll tunes. Along with them are guests "To Serve Man", a band that I play Bass for. This is a great opportunity to use this blog as a shameless plug for my own interests but it's also a chance for you to listen to some fun rock music from local artists. The show starts at9pm so make sure to show up a little earlier if you want to catch the entire set.

Jammy Jam - Lava Club

Steve Earle and the Dukes - Westcott Theater

Wear a blue collar with pride and this show. Steve Earle and the Duke's music is about the everyday man and with guitar licks saturated in an original country sound this show is guaranteed to be the highlight of your week. Ryan Cabrera, Teddy Geiger, Tyler Hilton - Westcott Theater

This ultra trio of singers and other talented acts "Ryan Cabrera", "Teddy Geiger", and "Tyler Hilton", bring their musical grace to the great city of Syracuse. Along with these guys are"Andrea Nardello" and "Pacinello." The doors open at 7pmand open quickly after that at 7:30pm. Tickets are purchasable through Westcott's website and go for $17-$20. Folk Rock,Americana, Soul, and Jam all mixed together. On a worse day I would say this isa terrible idea, but because its a good day thats quite the contrary. Hailingfrom the Northeast Ryan Montbleau met up with his band mates down South in Nawlinsto create Ryan Montbleau Band & Alo. Having been dubbed as Sci-Fi Middle Eastern Fusion this show should make for a very entertaining night on Wednesday at7:00pm. Free Booty Institute (FBI) "Al's Wine and Whiskey

 I'm wondering if this bands name is an ode to the infamous Female Body Inspector t-shirts and merchandise that I find in every seaside gift shop and county fair I visit. Free Booty Institutes (F.B.I.) Funk/R&B/Soul music is the perfect for the bar atmosphere. You can check these guys out while enjoying a few drinks at Al's Wine and Whiskey Lounge. The band will be performing from 9pm until 1am.

 Music so good that it can do a flying side kick right to your temple; Kung Fu is joined with "Sophistafunk" and "Sassafras Jenkins" this Thursday at the Westcott Theater. Tommy Davidson " Funny Bone

 Homie don't play that! " Its a 90s thing. Seasoned comedian Tommy Davidson will be performing a 21 and older comedy routine this weekend at Funny Bones inside Destiny. Mr. Davidson's career spans an impressive amount of years and gigs. From being a part of the In Living Color cast to traveling internationally on comedy tours in 2013. Show times are 7:30pm and 9:45pm on Friday and Saturday, and 7:30 on Sunday. Tickets are sold through Funny Bones website and cost $20.

Dirty Projectors " Westcott Theater

This is beginning to feel like free advertisement for Westcott Theater again (That's a joke.) The Dirty Projectors are an experimental Indie Pop/Rock group hailing from the great area of Brooklyn, NY these guys are a unique taste in music and with eleven year career as a band they must be making good music.Along with them is Delicate Steve. The doors open at 7:00pm and the show begins at "you guessed it- 8:00pm. Tickets are made available through Westcott's website and prices are $18-$23.

 

Monday (4/15/13) 6:30pm

Clutch " Westcott Theater

 Come on Syracuse venues, throw some events so I can write about shows in other places. This band is a personal favorite; you may remember some tracks from the MTV show Viva La Bam if you were tuning in at that special time in reality TV. Clutch is joined with Orange Goblin, Lionize and Scorpion Child. The show is a little earlier than other so doors open at 6:30pm and the show begins at 7:30pm. Tickets are on Westcott's website and are priced at $25.

Brett Michaels - Turning Stone Showroom

Don't worry guys Brett has had plenty of time to recover since the large set piece struck him on the head, and now he's ready to rock just for you! Former front man of Poison and reality TV star Bret Michaels performs his classic hits along with a few other choices at the Showroom at Turning Stone Casino. Tickets range from $50/$55/$65 with Room & Show Packages starting at $239. The concert starts at 8:00pm but make sure to get there a little bit earlier to gamble some of your hard earned money before the event.

Gza/Genius - Westcott Theater

Not quite the same person who directed 2012's "Man With the Iron Fists" but still a founding member of the Wu Tang Clan. Gary Grice aka: "Gza/Genius" brings along a large group of hip hop artists to the Westcott Theater on Friday at 7:00pm. Other artists include "Ratking", "The Goonies", "Jay Foss", "Irealz & DJ Afar." Tickets for the show are told on Westcott's website and will set you back $20 to $35.

Mark Doyle & the Maniacs

Mark Doyle is a talented and well respected Blues Rock musician and a favorite in the local Syracuse area. Throughout his career he has toured with famous acts such as "Meat Loaf", "Bryan Adams", and "Hall & Oates." In more recent years he's surrounded himself with some stellar musicians to create "Mark Doyle & the Maniacs." This talented super group takes the stage on a late Friday night (10:00pm) at Dinosaur BBQ. Admission is the cost of a meal.

Well keep dreaming because you've been an adult for awhile now with a family, a career, and bills to pay. But you can relieve it for one night at Westcott when "The Machine" performs Pink Floyd. Just when you thought all heavy rock music was dead, Sully Erna comes to the rescue. The front man of famous rock/heavy metal group "Godsmack" is playing the showroom at The Turning Stone. The Stone Foxes - The Westcott Theater

If you haven't heard about this Northern California quartet rock group... then you your not alone. They're still a  small band you know? Building a fan base, touring out of their van... BUT ANYWAYS they'll be at  The Westcott with doors opening at 7:00pm. Along with them are "The Blind Spots", "Decadence", and "Rabbit in the Rye."  Tickets for the show runs from $10 to $13 but please sure to check this show out, lots of talent to observe here.

Some days I wake up in the morning and I really just couldn't give a funk. See what I did there? But seriously, Funk group "Galactic" takes the stage along with "David Shaw", "Nigel Hall Band", and "Gridline Base Band." This is all taking place at Westcott Theater and those doors open at 7:00pm EST. Ticket prices are $20 to $25.

B.B. King - Showroom at Turning Stone Casino
 
When you're so famous that Gibson guitars gives you you're own model guitar then you're either profitable or a music legend; in B.B. King's case he is both. Syracuse gives a warm welcome to the blues rock icon on Tuesday at 8pm. Tickets for the show are on sale for $75/80/85. This is an event you really don't want to miss.

What little piece of my youth that is left just got really excited for this show! Inspired by the popular T.V. series and from the creators of Jersey Boys, Famous Artists present The Addams Family musical. This is a great show to attend as a family.The Toronto Post City quoted the show as a visually satisfying, rib tickling,lunatic musical that will entertain you to death. All three shows on Monday,Tuesday, and Wednesday start at 7:30pm.Ticket prices vary so check Ticketmaster for more details.

That 1 Guy " Westcott Theater

(That one guy) is pretty much how I describe every male person I know. But That 1 Guy is a one man band coming to Westcott Theater on Tuesday. Mike Silverman aka: That 1 Guy is famous for his use of homemade instruments on stage while performing Experimental/Funkmusic. Joining him is "Captain Ahabs Motorcycle Club", doors for the show open at 7:00pm and the show begins at 8:00pm. Tickets are being sold at $10 to $13 and are available through Westcott's website.

Lost Horizon and Syracuse welcome back the Post Hardcore band Let Live as they make a stop through Salt City (shameless plug) while on tour. Let Live is accompanied by "Issues", "Forsworn," "All The Kings Men", and "Give Us Jersey". Tickets to see all five bands will only set you back $12with doors opening at 6:00pm and the show starting at 6:30pm.

Noises Off " Red House

A play about a play, creator Michael Frayn brings to the Red House Noises Off. This is the story about a cast and crew who are putting together a sex comedy titled Nothing On. Needless to say the tension builds during the production and embarrassing hi-jinks ensue. The first showing for the play is a preview only at 8:00pm on Thursday with tickets priced at $12.50. The following two nights are on Friday and Saturday are also at 8:00pm with tickets going for $20or $15 for members.

Lehigh University student Jared Lucas is Kap Slap. What originally began as a hobby while away at college, his bootlegs and mashups are gaining national and international recognition. Kap Slap performs live at The Westcott Theater on Saturday.Along with him are "Natronic" and "Lionheart". The doors open up at 8:00pm and the show begins at 9:00pm. The Revival Tour - Westcott

Nothing at all is happening today. April fools! There's actually something really cool happening this day. Chug Ragan from Hot Water Music started the Revival Tour back in2008. The idea was to keep the Folk genre relevant and alive because of its contributions to not only music but to families and communities throughout history. It also helps that Folk influences are finding their way into mainstream as of late. On tour with Chuck is Dave Hause (The Loved Ones) Jenny Owens Young, Rocky Votolato, and Toh Kay (Streetlight Manifesto.) Doors to this acoustic show open at 7:00pm and begin at 8:00pm; tickets are available through Westcott's website and go for $18 to$20.

Excision - The Westcott Theater

More than enough "wub wub wub" than you can shake a stick at, Jeff Able aka: Excision performs at the Westcott Theater on Monday. This British Columbia DJ and producer is the Founder of "ROTTUN", a music label that's helped give shape to the Dubstep genre. Along with him are "Vaski" and "Paper Diamonds", both talented EDM/Dubstep artists. Doors open at 8:00pm and the show beings at 9:00pm, tickets are $28 to $30 and can be purchased through Westcott's website.

Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) & Sylvain Sylvain (New York Dolls) - Westcott

If you're at all in anyway a fan of punk music then you need to get your body over to The Westcott on Tuesday. "Glen Matlock" (Sex Pistols) and "Sylvain Sylvain" (New York Dolls) perform songs throughout their musical careers together acoustically. Joining them are are "California" and "Fugulele"; the doors open at 7:00pm and the show beings at 8:00pm. Tickets cost $15 to $18 an can be bought through Westcott's website.

Gaelic Storm - The Westcott Theater 

"Gaelic Storm" is a Celtic rock group who in recent years made it to the top of Billboards World Album Chart. The band's music sales reach over 1million and they have performed on the same bill with other famous acts like "Zac Bron Band" and "The Goo Goo Dolls." Doors for the show open at 7:00pm and begins at 8:00pm, tickets cost $20 to $25 and are available through Westcott's website.

Jim Norton - Funny Bones

Actor, Anchor, Author, Comedian, Host, and Radio Personality Jim Norton puts yours and my resume to shame. But besides that he's performing for three days at Funny Bones Comedy Club and Restaurant. Tickets are available on Funny Bones website and will cost you $20.

So this is four days in a row of shows happening at The Westcott, maybe I should consider devoting an entire section to them. Philadelphia DJ and producer "5 & A Dime" brings his chart toppling and viral beats to Westcott. Joining him is "Stone Sound" and "DJ Jett", doors open at 8:00pm and the beats start kicking at 9:00pm. Tickets are made available for purchase through Westcott's website and cost $10 to $12.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers - Turning Stone Showroom

Do you want to feel bad to the bone on Thursday? No? Okay me either. But if you do enjoy music from rock legends "George Thorogood and the Destroyers" they are playing the Shoowroom at Turning Stone Casino on Thursday. This one is kinda expensive so if you only know the one song then I don't recommend attending. Tickets range from $40/$45/$50 and Room & Show packages starting at $219. The show beings at 8:00pm.

If you follow the local music scene in Syracuse then you're already aware of this event, but everyone else should plan on attending the "95X Local Only Live" at The Lost Horizon on Friday. This is a great opportunity for local musicians to play their music and get some exposure while fans and new comers alike can listen and enjoy the music. And if you needed anymore overly positive information to coax you into going then you should know that the cost of admission for all seven bands is only $8 at the door. All ages are admitted, doors open at 7:00pm and the show begins at 7:30pm.

Let's face it; we're all a bunch of jerks. But that's okay because some ambitious Syracuse University students have recognized that and titled their magazine "Jerk Magazine." This piece of publication has managed to define and discover itself and now it is up and running. Admission to the vents is $5 and lasts from 7:30pm until 10:00pm.

Up and coming blues guitarist "Kenny Wayne Shepherd" graces us with his presence on Saturday at The Palace Theater. The always intense and in your face hardcore group "Every Time I Die" and deathcore's very own "The Acacia Strain" make a stop at the Lost Horizon on their tour. Considering we live in an Irish prominent town and that St. Patrick's Day is coming up soon there should be some Celtic artists mentioned. "Lunasa" is one of music's best Irish acoustic groups and perform live on Thursday at The Palace Theater. Along with them is a special performance from the "Drumcliffe Irish Dancers." The doors open at 6:00pm and the show begins at 7:00pm, tickets cost $22 and are available at "drumcliffe.org" or at the door on the day of the show.

Although categorized as a tribute band, "Rain" is more like recreation band for their effort and talents as musical artists and being able to play every song that even the The Beatles couldn't play live. Ian Bagg - Funny Bones

The great thing about Funny Bone's is the amount of world famous performers that the restaurant and comedy club can get to perform here in Syracuse. "Ian Bagg" is a Canadian comedic who is bizarre and out of control funny. His accomplishments range from performing live on "The Conan O'Brien" and being a part if History Channels "The History of the Joke" special. There are six viewings of the shows throughout the month of March, but the first two begin this week on Thursday and Saturday at 8:00pm. American Electronic Rock group I see stars perform live at the Lost Horizon on Monday, February 11. 2. Syracuse Opera (presents Sweeny Todd) " Civic Center

The Syracuse Opera performs the classic melodrama Sweeny Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street live on February 12th through the 15th at The Civic Center located next to the War Memorial. Johnny Depp fans will be arriving in droves so get your tickets now!

3. Andrew & Noah Band- Funk N Waffles
Andrew and Noah Band consist of a (full) seven members. In number there is power and that is exactly what the group brings to stages, concert halls, and now at Funk N Waffles on February 14th, and if you have a loved one who enjoys uniquely good music then check them out!

Up and coming band The Werks leave their creative mark on February 14th at the Wescott Theater. With a self-entitled style of music known as Psychedelic Dance Rock the under the radar group should be on your list of priorities!

For twenty eight years Syracuse locals have embraced the harsh cold climate here in central New York and this year is no exception. Starting on February 14th and lasting all the way through February 24th the Syracuse Winterfest can be experience all throughout the city.

6. Josh Blue " Funnybones
Funnybones inside of Destiny USA welcomes Comedy Centrals comedic Josh Blue. His original comedy act and his spirit to fight cerebral palsy is what helped him on his way to being one of the biggest names in comedy. Josh performs February 14th through Feb 17th, admission is $20 and tickets can be purchased on Funnybone's website.

7. Hate Breed - Wescott Theater
While on their Divinity of Purpose Tour, metalcore band Hatebreed makes a stop at the Wescott Theater February 16th at 6:00pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased on the Wescott Theater's website.

8. Rikk Emmett- Palace Theater
Solo artist Rik Emmett- best known for his songs "When a Heart Breaks" and "Saved by Love"- Is playing at The Palace Theater Saturday, February 16th. Tickets are $40 general admission and $55 VIP and can be purchased through Palace theaters website. The show begins at 8:00pm.
